Golden Globes: White is the New Black

Ali LarterSo, I clicked on E!'s "Red Carpet - Golden Globes" thing with Ryan Seacrest (ugh!) and thought I'd be watching it with one eye as I got some work done. Meanwhile, I would be keeping a list of my fashion picks - my faves to hate, and faves to rave. Yet, here it is, the show hasn't even started yet and my page has been furiously covered with the names of Hollywood elite all wearing pretty much the same thing: white. Yes, I'm blinded by the WHITE!!!
White is a tricky color - it generally needs a strong skin tone to not get washed out, which any wedding dress shopkeeper will explain to you, hence the need for ivory. There was so much white on this red carpet I was wondering if there was a political statement in the works.
Since there are so many, I'm going to list the ones I noted before breaking them into good and bad...
Sienna Miller, Sarah Paulson, Mary Rajskub, Annette Benning, Ellen Pompeo, Ali Larter, Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Emily Blunt, Teri Hatcher, Yunjin Kim, Kyra Sedgwick, Meryl Streep, Nicollette Sheridan, Salma Hayek, Hayden Panettiere, Heidi Klum, and Jennifer Garner...
Then there were a few gowns that may not have been white, but were so pale or embellished that they appeared white-ish...those were seen on Drew Barrymore, Rinko Kikuchi, Kate Walsh, and Jessica Biel.

Cameron Diaz
First, the "take it or leave it" category... Jessica Biel, gorgeous up front, but those two-toned sequins even made her ass look huge, Sienna Miller - beautiful gown, but totally destroyed by bad hair and worse makeup, Kyra Sedgwick - boring boring boring...can we get over the Grecian thing already? Also - Cameron Diaz. What's with the ruffles?
SO...now, the bad news. Nicollette Sheridan. I'm sorry, but the dress looked like something and evil bride would force her butchy bridesmaids to wear. Those little bows are just bad. My darling Heidi Klum, whom I absolutely adore and usually find to be impeccable, was dressed in an utter disaster. Did they make that on Project Runway? ![]()
Nicollette Sheridan should admit her desperation...Teri Hatcher - can you please learn to dress like something other than an insecure, middle-aged, slutty housewife on a night out? Please? Finally, Salma Hayek - totally unflattering. The point to having knockers like that is to set them off by your nipped-in waist. Suffice it to say, a handful of stylists should be losing their jobs tonight...!
Finally, the good news. When wearing white, the simpler the better. Ali Larter showed herself to be sexy and elegant in a very simple, draped gown. Kate Winslet looked gorgeous, as did Mary Rajskub (from 24), but my favorite has to be Sarah Paulson. Lovely! I love her on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, but I first loved her in her supporting role in Down With Love. Fabulous, funny, and elegant...
So, any speculation on what Brangelina fought about in the limo?
