Dr. Valerie Steele - Interview with Julie Fredrickson
Sunday, January 21, 2007 at 4:05PM The fabulous Dr. Valerie Steele of FIT sat down with Julie Fredrickson of Almost Girl and Coutorture to discuss many fashion topics...academia, influences, changes, etc. This excerpt is part two of the interview, but Julie leads with a question from yours truly! My heart brims with pride - especially at the smile Dr. Steele makes at hearing the name "Poetic & Chic".
Dr. Steele is someone whose work I have admired for many years - snatching up her many books on different fashion topics as soon as they are published. However, it would be far too simple to say that Dr. Steele simply writes about fashion. She's a sociologist, anthropologist, historian, artist, aesthete, and an academic. She ties together so many facets of the study of "costume" and points the way for its further exploration. She is one of my idols and rolemodels in the eschelon of capital "F" fashion, but with this interview she shows that she's ready and willing to sit down and chat with the new voices in fashion media.
Please take a look at the first part of the interview on Almost Girl. A very special thank you to Julie Fredrickson for asking my question!
