Such a Nice Cover

cover_w_190.jpegIt's no lie, I was looking for the latest issue of The Economist at the local newsstand, but as I began to browse the titles, my vision was completely arrested by the beauty of the February issue of W. I don't even like W, and yet with this cover, it was sure to come home with me.

Yes, they do make a nice pair don't they? Everyone talks of the ethereal beauty of Nicole Kidman, and while this is true, I think she will become a much more interesting person once the botox wears off a bit. But let's look at the one I'm more concerned about: Daniel Craig.

Alright, so I've said it before, but it bears repeating. The man is...is...is....well, indescribably attractive and compelling. The accompanying article discusses how Kidman & Craig are costars in two upcoming films, The Invasion, and The Golden Compass. Joel Silver said this of Mr. Craig which I think is pretty close to the mark:

"In the Thirties and Forties, Hollywood used to refer to 'rug actors' and 'dust actors'. Cary Grant was a rug actor - he could do the love scenes - and John Wayne was a dust actor, who could shoot and fight. Daniel can do rug and dust. He's got the craggy good looks, and he's a masculine tough guy - and let's face it, there aren't a lot of them around."

Yes, let's face it. I will. Gladly. In fact, consider me surrendered. Rug and dust - be still my heart!

While Philip Pullman's book of His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass creeped me out to no end, the prospect of enjoying Craig as Lord Asriel, and Kidman as Mrs. Coulter, I may just have to give it and its two sequels another chance...
