Whispers of Spring: Necklaces
Monday, January 8, 2007 at 9:40PM It's not springtime yet, but let's think about it: February magazines will be in mailboxes next week, and those generally launch the better part of the spring ad campaigns, which generally set the tone for the whole season. March magazines will be in mailboxes in about six weeks, and those are the mammoth counterparts of the September issues, showcasing enough pages of spring delights to fill a telephone book.
So, I thought I'd shake out the raindrops and present some whispers of spring...it'll be here before you know it! For some reason, I've found that I focus on accessories more than anything. I think it's because accessories are the way to grab onto a look quickly, and just a few simple accessory pieces can infuse your season's wardrobe (like it's entirely different from last season's,) with freshness and excitement. Also, things like scarves, necklaces, and bags can sometimes be adapted from what you already have, or they can be made on your own!
So...I'm going to begin with some necklaces...
It looks like the heaps of beads idea hasn't gone anywhere, which is great because I've spent some dollars buying beads over the past year. I'm happy to find the investment was worth it!

Versace
Now these are some of my favorites... The Lacroix is probably the easiest look to emulate - especially with a whole bunch of those white beads that you know are at the back of your grandmother's top drawer. The lucite "ice cubes" by de la Renta show the cool elegance that is the de la Renta woman, while the Louis Vuitton Liberty fabric-balls show the "crafty & natural" ideal from that show - I may try to make some of these myself! Apparently Missoni wants people to make their own necklaces too - out of window screens! (At least it looks fab!)
These three I can't quite decide... Compelling, yes, but would I want to wear them? The most wearable is the Trovata, but it's also the least interesting of the three. I cannot actually believe that anyone at YSL thinks women want to wear heart-shpaed blocks around their necks!
