Champagne Chair Contest at DWR

How many times have you made yourself a champagne chair? You know, it's the morning-after, wire cages, corks, and foil litter the countertop, and instead of doing the dishes you do a little arts-and-crafts...and voila! Champagne Chair.
Did you know that Design Within Reach does a Champagne Chair contest each year? Mais oui...and you don't have to be Veuve Cliquot to decide which one is the best either. Yes, you too can vote for your favorite here: http://www.dwr.com/champagne/vote.cfm
While they're all terribly distinguée and clever-clever, my personal favorite is the Origami Chair (shown here) by Martine Matejczyk - remember that name. Eames, Noguchi, Knoll, Matejczyk... It's whimsical, elegant, delicate, balanced...in everyone's favorite champagne color: burnt orange.
Oh, and by the way, Martine is 11... Ten more years and she'll be able to buy her own bottle of champagne! Little Miss Sunshine goes to the Neue Galerie?

However, Martine has made me look at my designs in a whole new light. I praise her for her creative confidence and damm her for her destruction of my years of work.
Martine, may you grow stronger as a designer and may you give a thought to others without your gift.
