Can You Handle It?So it's been about a month since I added the Team In Training badge at the right... What does this mean? What is Team In Training? I've heard about them before, but since when are they on P&C?
This will be my second year participating with Team In Training, as I work to get in shape for the Wildflower olympic-distance triathlon on May 6th. Team In Training is a fantastic organization that helps people just like you train for endurance sporting events like marathons, century rides, and triathlons. They provide coaching, advice, and an outline of tough workouts to build you up for your event, while you meet fun people, socialize, and raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Oh, I didn't mention that? Yes. To participate in the triathlon I need to raise $2900.00 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. LLS provides medical assistance, support, and counseling for patients and families enduring treatments for blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. They also fund grants and fellowships for cancer research and treatment development throughout the United States.
Last week at our season kick-off event, I learned that some the funds raised by Team In Training in past years went directly to the development of the drug Gleevek - a leukemia treatment medication with an overwhelmingly high success rate. Gleevek works like a "smart bomb" when it enters the body - it directly targets the bad cancer cells, while it leaves the healthy cells alone. Many patients have been saved by this remarkable drug, and it would not have been possible if it were not for the funds raised by Team In Training.
You too can be a life-saver! Please donate to my triathlon effort by clicking here: http://www.active.com/donate/tntgsf/Annie2007 and donating to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I need your help to cross the finish line! Believe me, it will be a lot easier for you to donate than it will be for me to get through the training - let me do the hard work, and I'll let you save a life!
I'm sure there are Team In Training chapters in your area too! Visit the Team In Training website and take a look at what event you can do - I promise you, you won't regret it! Get in shape, make new friends, have fun, and go farther than you ever thought possible... Now, tell me that isn't poetic & chic!
