Training is Tough

Ms. P&C is so pooped, she has to lean on her bicycle...Okay, wow, it's mid-March - how did that happen? There's no escaping at this point, I am absolutely, definitely, positively racing in the Wildflower Olympic-distance triathlon on May 6th. That day...ain't so far away! It's true - I just signed the paperwork to make it official! That means I have another...oh, about six weeks to raise about $1800.00!
Which is harder, the training or the fundraising? It's a toss-up. But every hard work has its reward, and TNT has those a-plenty: new friends, new challenge, fitness, and lots and lots of parties. Yes! The parties (er, beer-drinking) are the fourth sport of the triathlon.
In fact, I would like to thank everyone for coming out to the R Bar last Thursday for the second Everyone Loves Another Irish Girl Fundraiser! Jen & I raised close to $400.00 that will go straight to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! I know I had a good time drinking my dinner in Black & Tans and hanging out with all of you! Special thanks also to Chris and Todd at the R Bar - you guys are the best!
Okay - so there were a lot of exclamation points in that paragraph - someone slap me. I know I was slapped awake on Saturday morning when I had to head to Redwood Highschool in Marin for a good, long swim, and a good, long bike ride - yeah, like Paradise Loop twice! I popped into Sports Basement on my way out of town to pick up some CO2 cartridges, new goggles, and GU a-plenty, (sexy gear eh?) which is when I ran right smack into a long-ago ex-boyfriend. Yeah. At 8:30 in the morning, after tumbling out of bed and throwing on sweats. He looked a lot better than I did - I have such good taste in men... He was heading out with his training team as well. Did I mention that male triathletes are really damn fine? No? Well they are.

Map of P-Loop from Coach JamesSo our swim at Redwood was long, fast, and crowded, but the gorgeous bike ride made up for it. Every weekend should include a trip out to the Parasidse Loop - pure NoCal bliss!
Saturday night, Lucky the Leprechaun gathered TNTers far & wide for the Third Annual Irishman pubcrawl, which while not a fundraiser, was reportedly a wildly fun time. I enjoyed my St. Patrick's Day in the good graces of close friends who made me an incredibly delicious meal of Pizco sours, Chilean Crab Pie, followed by berries and cream for desert. You know who you are, and you know what I'm talking about... Suffice it to say, the meal was perfectly suited to satisfy the hunger of a hard-worked triathlete in training.
Sunday I skipped the group run to do one of my own, but did go to Craig's Second-Annual Kickball Classic for Cancer. Lots of good fun - three teams rotating through the innings of fast-play kickball, er sloshball. Yes, that's what it's called when the keg's on second base. (Right in the middle of this I realized that once again, I was taking Sunday back - hooray!) On Craig's field it's all about Craig's rules, but it's nice to know that Criag is open to bribery - especially when you need that big brute of a infielder removed for an inning or two. He claims that his bribes go right to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, but who knows?
This week, there's so much going on that I actually need to consult my Evite dashboard to figure it all out. Tomorrow night is another pub night - this time at Greens Sports Bar on Polk. Then, it's Beth, Jen, & Lauren's date auction at Kelley's Tavern on Thursday. Date auction? Wow - that's saucy. Apparently there will also be some men on the block too - must attend. Then, Friday night brings about Nelly's Karaoke Night...I want to go, but how do I get out of singing? So once again, TNT has my social calendar completely full. Good work!
The point of this post is twofold: first, to encourage all P&Cers everywhere to run out and join their local Team In Training team for an endurance event. I promise you, you will not regret it! Second, if you would like to donate to my fundraising effort for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society I think that would be great. Not just because it would help me out, but because you'd be helping so many people by funding important cancer research and patient services. You will make a difference!
Oh...and if you need a more comic point of view on the training, please visit my friend Pam's totally entertaining blog, Pamspace. (She's new at this, so go easy on her...)
