Too Darn Hot

5day_large.jpgHello all! Sorry I haven't written in a while, all I can say it's been a busy, strange, fast-paced...did I mention busy? week. The Bay Area is wrapped in a little bit of a heat wave, which may not shock you but 'round these parts a "robust high" is downright newsworthy.

What is a "robust high" you ask? Well, the weather in this part of California is a funny thing - it never does what you think it should based on the seasons or anything. You think summertime means blazing heat, humidity, lemonade stands, and swimming pools, while we here in San Francisco know that this is the time of year when you must surely bring a jacket and wrap wherever you go because that lovely fog is ever-present. It heats up inland, but at the coast things stay breezy and cool with a "thick marine layer" - that's lingo for fog and clouds. In other words: it's cold.

This week however, is brought to you by the letter "H" - as seen hovering over the weather map, indicating enough high pressure to dissipate that usual blanket of clouds. It's positively hot outside, and everyone seems to have dug out their one item of white clothing to bear it.

This weekend should bring bike rides, barbecues, buckets of beer at Pier 23 or The Ramp, picnics, and possibly mojitos on a rooftop deck or two. Yes, it's time to put on a dress and treat yourself to a pedicure...people will be out!

So, as this is Thursday, "weekend eve"... I leave you with those happy thoughts, and a little bit of Cole Porter:

I'd like to coo with my baby tonight
And pitch the woo with my baby tonight
But I ain't up to my baby tonight
'Cause it's too darn hot.

According to the Kinsey report
Every average man you know
Much prefers his lovey-dovey to court
When the temperature is low.
But when the thermometer goes way up
And the weather is sizzlin' hot,
Mr. Pants, for romance, is not.

'Cause it's too too too darn hot.
It's too darn hot. It's too darn hot...
