The BeBe Shiny Yellow Trench

yellowtrench.jpgDon't hate me but...I absolutely LOVE this trench coat. Actually, I love the coat and the image which is heading up Bebe's new Fall advertising campaign. Okay, so flashing the full knickers isn't so classy - what do you think, Britney? - but I love that the whole image captures that femme-fatale fantasy ofa great trench, silk stockings, and a great pair of sexy heels. Yes, it smacks of Samantha Jones, but we all have a little bit of Sam inside, don't we? Well, we should...just a little bit. True, I could also do without the driving gloves, riding crop and veil - that IS a bit cotume-y, but overall it's a fantastic image.

Confession: I'm not a big fan of Bebe. I used to be, but over the past few years they've moved from chic work-appropriateness to what my sister likes to call "fancy street walker clothes." It's hard to find cute stuff there; everything is sized to fit small (and therefore show off what God gave you,) and even when things are cut well, the colors would knock out your eyeballs. Yet, every once in a blue moon I can find a good "going-out" top. While they do sometimes come off as a bit cougar-ish, if they're kept in check by a nice blazer the tiger is tamed in the name of class. So, you can imagine my surprise when I did a double-take on this image and this trench.

I'm a sucker for a fabulous trench coat. I have more than a few from some very fine designers, and yet I'm still on the lookout for more. Trenches go with everything, they're mysterious, classic yet always modern, and yet so non-descriptly sexy. Maybe I love trenches because I always meet men when I'm wearing them. I suppose they just want to know what's going on underneath...hmmmm.

This trench is a gorgeous yellow color - tying the spring highlight tone into a hot pop for fall - and also incorporates the trend of liquid shine. But as any true luxury-o-phile knows, the devil's in the details: um, hello fuschia lining! Gorgeous.

To make matters worse (for my budget) this coat is deliriously within budget at only $129.00. I may just need to jump in and get one in yellow AND silver. These would be great for the evening with some jeans, or to liven up a dark winter's day with some bright color. You could even wear it to work with some basic black.

Now...who to wear it for?
