Heavenly...

daysofheaven.jpgThis post from Lola is Beauty is what set the ball rolling... After reading this earlier this month, I instantly moved Days of Heaven toward the top of my Netflix queue, and it arrived just today. After watching it, I almost restarted the DVD from the beginning to watch it again. An hour and a half of pure visual bliss - and not to mention a very familiar soundtrack by Ennio Morricone.

I love it when someone turns me onto some random cinematic gem that grabs all of my beauty receptacles! I'm almost embarrassed that I hadn't seen it before - it is Terrence Malick after all, and it is probably one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen.

Check out the post on Lola is Beauty - she breaks it all down; especially by stating that Linda Manz's overvoice is the perfect imperfection that makes the whole movie complete. There were certain points when I almost rewound a single line just to hear her say something incredibly simple and deep in her raspy, 13-year old voice.

Simple and deep, like: "I've been thinking what to do wit' my future. I could be a mud doctor. Checkin' out the eart'. Underneat'..." Sheesh.

Just watch it. You won't be sorry.

Ok, so i am both elated and embarrassed. Elated because you loved this film as much as I do (Francis, Alfred and Stanley will always have their rightful places, but goddamn how I love Terrence), and embarrassed because I should have forced this movie on you sooner. Days of Heaven is (I apologize for the swearing, but it truly fits here) a fucking masterpiece. Nuff said.
