Fall 2007 - Rusty Persimmon

Persimmon - a brilliant orange, smooth-skinned fruit that is terribly tart when unripe, but very sweet when fully ripe. The house I lived in during college had a persimmon tree just off of our back porch. In the middle of the fall it would lose all of its foliage only to leave behind these small, plump, orange fruits, which in the naked tree looked like small balloons suspended in the branches. Orange with a bit of gold and brick red...like a preternatural apple - crisp, crunchy, and perfect with a little cinnamon and brown sugar.

This Fall designers have brought persimmon to apparel in a huge way. Such a rich color that evokes autumn light and Dutch still life paintings. Imagine how luxurious it will be to wear it!

I bought a Marc coat over Christmas in a similar shade... the color makes me so happy and reminds me of the coat Audrey Hepburn wears in "Breakfast at Tiffany's." You know, when she and George Peppard are spending the day doing things they've never done before? Sigh... love that movie.
