Ms. P&C as "Evil Bunny" at Genevieve & Derek's weddingI thought that before I got going on the new year that I'd look back on the year that was, Poetic and Chic-style...
First, in the interest of statistical research, I thought I'd let you know that the most googled post on P&C during the past year was this one I wrote about Giada de Laurentiis entitled "Whole Lotta Giada". One of the most frequent word searches leading to this post was "Giada cleavage"... Ahem. I'm not sure why MY website comes up when one enters this into Google, but oh well. I'll take what I get.
So, now that that bit of business is done, here's the year in review:
In January I explored my own reasons for loving beauty products and helped a man friend get some new clothes.
February brought the Masterpieces of French Jewelry exhibition to San Francisco and I found myself entranced by all of that ice. I also gave some advice to the gentlemen on how to shop for girls on Valentine’s Day.
March marked the official beginning of the “You Look Pretty” movement, which I’m happy to say is still going strong. However, even this positivity has a difficult time against the horrors of bridesmaid dress shopping! One Friday morning I fell in love with my city once again, but also found something to hate about the Bluefly ad campaign. I also tied together Louis Vuitton with Jean Beaudrillard, and offered up my favorite film soundtracks.
In April, I dug out an old story about some old shoes, and celebrated my grandmother’s birthday in high style. I enjoyed a quick business trip to New York, and in so doing really got my jet-lag beauty regimen down pat. In preparing for my triathlon, I found some treasure on Treasure Island, and rediscovered an old friend I’d completely forgotten.
In May, I learnt that Marc Jacobs offers nothing to eat, while I also honored one of my favorite television personalities: Bob Barker. I also found fulfillment when completing my second Wildflower Triathlon.
June brought another trip to New York, a viewing of the Yves Saint Laurent documentaries, and a homemade version of the Louis Vuitton Liberty necklace.
In July, I bought myself a potted palm (for better or worse), and reviewed the amazing Nan Kempner: American Chic exhibition. I also threw a fantastic cheese party, and discussed some of the finer points of RSVPing. I also explained the difference between a fedora and a trilby, and got captivated by a new documentary on haute couture.
August was busy with lots of work, but luckily I was able to make a visit to our nation’s capital where I really loved the art.
In September I rounded up the Fall trends and offered my own picks for the best looks…
In October, I outed myself after an intense viewing of Loic Prigent’s documentary on Marc Jacobs. I also dressed up as Marie Antoinette for Halloween, but only after I dressed up as a bridesmaid for my friend Genevieve’s wedding.
In November I got my hands on a copy of Valerie Steele’s new book The Black Dress, and decided I needed a new clutch. The Breakfast Club captured my attention once again, and I unknowingly began a bit of a fashion-storm by putting the kabbosh on “affordable luxury.”
In December, my friend and I caused a ruckus at Marc by Marc Jacobs, said goodby to the fabulous Blueprint magazine, and was impressed by the creativity on display at a local bazaar.
Phew! Quite a year for my little website! And while I don't believe in resolutions, I do believe in being healthy, kind, and generous as much as I possibly can. I did love what I read on Curious Bird - sort of a list of things to keep in mind during the coming year. So, with this as my inspiration, 2008 may include the following...
I will...
cook for more friends
do the dishes every night
road trip with a close friend
remember to breathe deeply
be hopeful
drive carefully
talk to that boy on the bus
buy organic
be even more optimistic and less sarcastic
swear less
wear my glasses when reading spreadsheets
go on a really fun date
keep my mind open to possibility
visit New York
not turn on the TV as soon as I get home
write down my ideas
take hot baths
read The Economist
invite a new friend to do something
light candles, just because
think more about what I *really* want to do
go to the museums
do something that scares me
work on my book
pay bills on time
be patient with people
spend quality time with my sister and brother-in-law
talk to a stranger sitting next to me on a plane
smile more for no reason at all
stick to my skin care regimen
research and plan a trip far away
try new recipes
laugh
Happy 2008 everyone!!!
