Onward!

Hi all - the ankle is almost better. Still totally banged up, but at least I'm no longer the "girl on the crutches". I apologize about not posting (again,) but honestly between the physical hurt, trying to get myself to work and home from work, trying to buy groceries and carry them, trying to take out the recycling, trying to do the laundry, trying to not fall in the shower, trying to not cry when people stare at me on the bus but don't offer me a seat (I'm on crutches people - with a leg bandaged to the knee!), trying to just be normal and keep my dignity... I was exhausted. Also, the criticism I received about wishing I could have someone's help (partner, friend, roommate, family member, etc,) in dealing with all of this was pretty upsetting and killed any impulse I had about opening up. Did I mention I did all of the above by myself 95% of the time in the past week - oh, and that I have six flights of stairs between my apartment and the street, an 8-block walk to work after I get off the bus, no car, and no, I can't work from home? Well, now you know. If my desire for companionship at this time gets your favorite pair of Riot Grrrl panties into a twitch, my apologies.
Anyways. Enough with this rant. On to some things that are much more fun than my multi-colored ankle. Apart from it's fun color though, the other good thing that came out of this ordeal was the couple of days I got to be on vicodin. I really have no propensity for addiction, but I can definitely see why people could love the stuff. Takes the edge off, puts you to sleep like a baby...or as the great Joan Cusak said in Working Girl: "Just chills ya' evah so slightly." Although I stopped taking the opiates a few days in, I do have a few other new things I'm addicted to....
A few weeks ago the new Domino Guide to Decorating arrived on my desk at work and keeping this away from my colleagues is my new game. Great basics are broken down to their simplest elements and then shown all done-up in stylish rooms. If you're planning to re-do your whole place, or just need some ideas for refreshers, this is the book to buy. It's basically a hard-covered mega-copy of your favorite issue of Domino that you won't need to recycle in a few months. Keeper!
I downloaded John Legend's newest album on iTunes...yum! His voice is just the sexiest thing, n'est ce pas? This time his joined by Estelle, Kanye West, Andre 3000 and a few others. I'm listening to it right now and it's a good and lively backgrounder for boring spreadsheets of product.
You saw it on Ms. Barrymore in this month's Harper's Bazaar, but you too can have the "Time for a Change" t-shirt from Marc by Marc Jacobs. Yes, they have them, they're only $18 and they're probably the one of the chic-est political tees on the market. Don't miss out like many did on the "Protect the Skin You're In" t-shirts...these will also be collectors' items.
I'm completely in love with these mary jane pumps from Nine West. I pass by them in the shop window and almost drool. The asymmetrical double-strap, the platform, the red snakeskin... And you know how I feel about red shoes. Actually, the other colors in this style are pretty sauce too. Is it wrong for me to have a bum foot and be looking at high heels? Do I feel guilty? No. Why, should I?
San Francisco's own splendid movie palace of yesteryear, The Castro, played host to the world premiere opening of Sean Penn's new film, Milk, about former San Francisco Supervisor and gay rights pioneer, Harvey Milk. I love that this opening was in San Francisco - the low-key style of the city got a dose of hip Hollywood with stars like Diane Lane, Diego Luna, Josh Brolin, James Franco, Sean and Robin Wright Penn, as well as local characters and politicos. I love that it opened at The Castro - the heart of the neighborhood that is a world-wide symbol for the gay community. I also love that it opened just a week before we all go to the polls to vote NO on Proposition 8. Milk has a limited release in late November with a full release on December 5th.
Finally, the day I've been waiting for almost all year is here! In fact, it's tomorrow! Tomorrow morning I will be at the press preview for the Yves Saint Laurent exhibit at the M.H. de Young museum in Golden Gate Park. I've been planning what to wear for a few weeks now, and I'm not ashamed to admit it because I just learned that Monsieur Pierre Bergé will be there himself, not to mention the usual local glamour of Tatiana Sorokko, Dede Wilsey, and who knows who else? Let's just say, if Nan Kempner will still alive she'd probably be planning on it too. You can imagine that I'm thrilled to the gills. Tune in on Friday for a complete review before the show opens to the general public on Saturday!
