You Know What to Do...

Finally, it's election day! Honestly, I don't think I could have stood another day of all of the advertisements. Here in California we have all the propositions to deal with, which creates a whole lot more election noise than in other states... I am so happy it is all almost over!

Once again, I think back on women's suffrage and the thought that it hasn't even been 100 years since the 19th ammendment was passed. Can you believe it?

I remember in eighth grade I had to research a family member for our history class; I research my grandfather's Aunt Maggie, who raised him after his parents had died. She came to America from County Donegal, Ireland and arrived in New York on the day McKinley was shot - September 6, 1901. From New York she came to California where she began working as a housemaid, until she married and began having children.

I remember when I interviewed her daughter for my report, she emphasized how proud Aunt Maggie was that she could say that she voted in the first presidential election where women were allowed to vote. That election took place on November 2, 1920, and Maggie voted for Warren G. Harding - a Republican. Of course, this was back when blue states were red, and red states were blue...

There is probably a woman like Aunt Maggie in your family history too. Don't let them down by forgetting to vote! This election is probably the most momentous of our lifetime - don't be the one that misses out on being a part of history!
