Friday Faves!

Leatitia Casta for Louis Vuitton 2008-2009, by Annie LeibovitzStyleFrizz wants to know what you think of the new ad campaign for Louis Vuitton Fall 2008. I'm not so hot on it, even if the great Annie Leibovitz shot the gorgeous Letitia Casta in front of my favorite Paris landmark - the Pont Neuf. The pastel-y, dreamy sky and lonely Parisian streets leave me a little cold and overall I find the images boring. I feel like the collaboration between Marc Jacobs and his former photography team of Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot was always so strong, so new, so edgy, that these images are pretty meh. I suppose this dislike goes back to my previous post from a few months ago about how Vuitton is backing away from risky experiementation (Alas & Piggot) and staying with something with more broad appeal that is classically "on-brand". (That is, more luxe exclusivity and less hip-hop.) Enter La Leibovitz and her moody faux-cloud sky filters...

The hilarious Jill Sherman finds humor in just about everything fashion-related. Here's her latest roundup that recaps the more ridiculous moments from the tents this week. Spring 2009 will surely be a hoot!

Okay, so I'm kind of obsessed with A Continuous Lean. My brother-in-law sent me a link from this mens' style blog a few weeks ago and now I'm hooked. I've caught up on the old posts and wait with baited breath for Michael Williams' latest post to pop up in my Google Reader. He's kind of my virtual crush in the blogosphere, which is a little weird since I've never met the guy or anything, but I know I'd probably go on a date with him if he asked. This is new for me because I tend to go for the scruffy, rugged, bad-boy types, not the prepster, yacht-clubby boys who shop at The Brothas. But I do find Mr. Williams pretty adorable. It could be the retro Wayfarers or his penchant for mixing cocktails, but I think there's something here...

Joan and the XeroxSpeaking of which, A Continuous Lean posted these fabulous illustrations inspired by Mad Men by Dyna Moe on Flickr. (Via Men.Style.com.) J'adore! Especially this one of  "Joan with the Xerox." See more of Dyna Moe's work at her site - Nobody's Sweetheart.

Staying in tomorrow night? Can't get enough of the Mid-Century modern of Mad Men? Turner Classic Movies will be showing the original 1966 (or "sexty-sex") version of Boeing Boeing with Tony Curtis and Jerry Lewis. The Broadway production is in full-force right now, so it might be fun to catch up on the early version. This film, along with a lot of the late-fifties Day-Hudson comedies inspired the very fun, very stylish Renee Zellweger & Ewan McGregor film Down With Love - a must see for anyone who loves that early-sixties look mixed with a friendly battle of the sexes.

Have a great weekend everyone!
