Grandma's Glass Tree

I cannot tell you how long I've been wanting to share this little gem with all of you. It's one of my favorite things about my Christmas decorations because it's one of the many Christmas knick-knacks that I inheirited from my Grandma (whom you can read about in this post - one of my favorites).
The glass tree is a whimsical little bit of vintage delight that my Grandma hung every year in her dining room when the Christmas décor came out of the boxes. I cannot remember who, but one of her friends made this glass tree for her years ago and it was therefore one of her favorite treasures. (I'll try to find out who the creative mastermind was as well as around when it was made - I'm guesstimating 1940s-1950s.)
I take it out every year and prop it on my desk where I can see it every day. It's just one of those things that makes me so happy this time of year. I also love how relevant it is for today too: recycled glass, an old frame, some scraps of ribbon and burlap...the eco-chic possibilities are endless!
The glass tree is composed of some artfully arranged green glass - from a wine bottle, probably. It's then trimmed with some miniature ball ornaments and sequins - and all of this was done long before there were hot glue guns. The entire thing is mounted on a slab of glass covered with burlap and trimmed with green velvet ribbon. A little Santa Claus head serves as the tree-topper.
I know it's simple and kind of silly, but one of my best friends was over here the other day and noticed it instantly. Obviously, there's still some fantastic style about this thing - and here I thought I was being self-indulgent!
