Dior: Wistfully yours...

Dior Cannage Slingback, $620 at Neiman MarcusDior Medium Shopper, $1950 at Neiman MarcusYesterday I walked down Stockton Street by Union Square and very nearly tripped over myself outside of the Dior store. There, in the window, were these shoes and this handbag. Pausing, I took a moment to reflect upon the beauty...

I imagined slipping my feet into those saucy platform peep-toe slingbacks and knew that if I did, there'd be nothing I couldn't do. Diors are among my favorite shoes period, and peep-toe slingbacks are some of my favorite shoes for spring & summer, especially in a city. The cannage quilting and vampy heel on these is just gorgeous. I could conquer the world in those shoes.

The bag too, with it's lusciously soft calf leather and bright metal hardware was almost too much for me. It's big and bold, but not too big and bold, and in plain black it would be noticeable but just inconspicuous enough to be truly luxurious. I love the new "CD" cutout, and the whole thing looks like a new best friend. In other words: it's perfect.

For a moment, the desire was so palpable I could taste it. I swear, I could even smell the delicious leather through the window.

Contemplating larceny, smashed glass, reconstructive hand surgery, and the last time I had something new and lovely, I think I literally felt my heart break as I walked away.

Love the shoes. They're like the footwear version of the Chanel Quilted Bag.

Been there and feel your pain! My trick for getting over something like this is to cut out a picture of the item in question (in my case an Azzedine Alaia python jacket retailing over 5000 GBP) and post it above your desk where you can see it all the time. Familiarity breeds contempt. Soon, you'll start seeing everything that's wrong with the item in question and it will lose its power over you. It takes time but it works.

Courage ma jolie!
