October in the Railroad Earth

This is an excerpt from my favorite Jack Kerouac-Steve Allen recording of October in the Railroad Earth. It's a prose poem about beatnik life in San Francisco. I found it on YouTube with this vintage film of the city, which is actually from much later (probably from the 1970s when the poem dates from the late 1950s-early1960s). Either way, it's a lovely bit of San Francisco and I thought it was a great way to bring in October, and my favorite time of year: autumn.
