Vintage FIFA World Cup Art

Chile 1962Every time the World Cup comes around I marvel at how it galvanizes the entire world. It's incredible! While people may love American football or baseball, there's nothing like soccer to fuel the passions. I think the culture is fascinating, even while I have no idea who anyone is, or who's better than whom. When I lived in Europe I saw a little bit of the frenzy - people dressed head to toe in team colors, hitting the bars early and often in support of their team. The best Americans do is a ballcap. There's no contest on who the gamers are in the spectrum of the sporting world.
One of the things I always love about the World Cup is the timeless, enduring artwork that comes out of the event. These vintage posters are still vivid and exciting, even decades after the fact. The Mexico-1970 poster is a graphic design classic. Simple, colorful, and conveying very clear messaging, these posters represent great design and I think they're one of the best traditions of the World Cup.
