Postcard: Greetings from the Gulf Coast

As I'm posting this I'm listening to the news about the oil flood in the Gulf. Every day seems like Groundhog Day where BP/Deep Water Horizon is concerned. Every day my heart hurts more. I'm not sure why I chose this postcard - not to be sad, not to be sarcastic, not to be mean, but I think it's because this is how I want to think of the Gulf Coast. Carefree, breezy, beautiful, and full of happy vacationers.
At one point, the Gulf Coast was an exotic locale for Americans who couldn't afford international travel; it was America's playground before Vegas and Disneyland, and before trips to Hawaii were actually affordable for the middle class. The postmark date has been pulled off of this one, but I'm guessing it's from the 1940s or 1950s. I love its colors, nostalgia, and that each letter holds its own bit of classic Americana...
