P&C Questionnaire: Deanne of Dream Sequins

Yes, it's back! I've had a few weeks where my guest bloggers have had some scheduling conflicts, etc, so the P&C Questionnaire got to enjoy a small hiatus. In order to prevent such shenanigans in the future, you should all know that the P&C Questionnaire will be out every other week from now on. I think that pacing will be a lot more exciting for all!

So, to jump start the questionnaire we have the lovely and so very avant-garde Deanne Yee of Dream Sequins! Deanne dresses the way I'd always like to, but never have the guts to: edgy, dark, and downtown, but eternally elegant. Dream Sequins showcases trends in both fashion and beauty, and highlights the best indie and emerging designers out there, thanks to Deanne's fantastic taste and unwavering eye. And really, would there be anything cooler than a dream doused in sequins? I think not.

What is your occupation and how did you arrive at it?

I work in digital strategy for luxury brands at a PR agency.  The position is a perfect marriage of my background and interests over the years as a freelance fashion writer, blogger and student of social media. Plus, I get to work with bloggers and brands that I truly respect.

Name three things that inspired you this week.

Oh this one is hard!  Every week, my husband, family and friends inspire me.  Does that sound like a cop out? :)

What is your personal style "uniform"?

It used to be anything black and minimalist- but I would say my "uniform" right now is a dress with interesting details.  This Fall, I'm really going to commit to The Lady in my wardrobe.

Name one type of clothing, shoes, or accessory that always makes you stop and stare, and explain why.

I'm kind of a sucker for killer heels.  I have a beloved collection- ranging from wedges, platforms to stilettos, and I can't get enough.  Living in New York, I usually opt for sensible shoes during the day, but when I want to feel powerful, I put on a pair of super tall 5 inch shoes.  I can't stop staring at them when I'm out shopping.

Do you buy vintage? If so, what piece in your collection is your favorite?

I do buy vintage, though I'm not as patient as I used to be with my vintage shopping.  My favorite piece is actually something I swiped from my mother's closet- a long velvet Edwardian revival dress with a lace collar from the 70s.  I can never find the right occasion to wear it out- but I love looking at it.

Do you ever feel like you were born in the wrong time? If so, what era would you like to have lived in and why?

I used to really resonate with 60s style (think: Mad Men glam), but for me, there is nothing as exciting as the present.

What current trend do you like the most?

Longer skirt lengths; maxi dresses!

What current trend (in your opinion) cannot disappear fast enough?

I don't really like dissing trends.  I'm open to experimentation.

What film could you watch over and over and still find something inspiring? Why?

One of my favorite films of all time is Umbrellas of Cherbourg.  What's not to love about a sung-through musical?  It stars a young Catherine Deneuve, whose beauty is unreal, and the costumes (early 60s with a pastel touch) and cinematography are a delight.

If blogging didn't exist, how would you fill your extra time?

I think I would want to be involved in a creative outlet in some way.  My friends and I are working on a fashion-design related project.  There are never enough hours in the day to do the extra projects that I want to tackle!

I know! I also applaud the fact that Deanne is asking for MORE maxi dresses when most people shy away from them. A sartorial maverick, that girl!
