Bon Weekend!

This stunning painting, La Carmencita, ca. 1890 by John Singer Sargeant, is the work that dominates the first exhibition room of Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cézanne and Beyond at the de Young Museum. This incredible new show opens tomorrow, (much more on that later!) but I had to share this lady right away. I love her posture, rich saffron-yellow silk costume, and her entire attitude. She's not the usual Sargeant lady, which is maybe why she's so captivating. The angle of the chin, the bend of the arm, the stance... here's a girl who knows where she's going!
