Stylish Blogging Award!

My friend Helene over at The Luxe Chronicles named me among her recipients of The Stylish Blogging award last week, which is indeed an unexpected honor. As part of the award, one must reveal seven things about themselves before passing the award on to seven more bloggers. So, without further ado...

1. I worked as a line cook in college. A legitimate one with houndstooth pants and everything. I was considering going to the culinary academy at the time, so this experience was essential. (It was also essential to ending my fascination with culinary school.) This is the one job where I can truly say I learned something every single day.

2. While I was a line cook I was severely burned by scalding hot water. I was carrying a pot off of the stove when I tripped on one of those thick rubber mats causing the water to splash me in the face & chest. It took me almost 2 years to take a hot shower again. Luckily, my face healed completely scar-free, and the only evidence left is a very pale (almost unnoticeable, really) scar on my right breast. Since I'm not posing in Playboy, this hasn't yet presented itself as a problem. In fact, I think it's kind of bad ass.

3. Sometimes I go onto Google Streetview and take a quick trip to Paris. It makes me miss it a little less.

4. This year I discovered that I shared the same birthday as Jean-Luc Godard and that fact tickles me pink.

5. I started collecting postcards a long time ago, but my collection really took on steam during college. One of my classes was taught by the great California artist, Wayne Thiebaud, who stressed the importance of collecting postcards as a visual record. He said this was especially vital for artists or anyone who needed to keep images at close reference. Therefore, most of my earliest postcards are of works of art. Of course, all of this was before the internet made everything so easy to find, but I still love my postcards. I have some in my collection from 7th grade!

6. I have been playing piano since about age 9 or 10, and I'd still play it every day if I could have one in my little apartment. My favorite piece to play is Chopin's Nocturne in E Minor from Opus 72. I secretly wish I had the talent and ability to be a jazz pianist, but that ship has definitely sailed. This makes me love any pianist all the much more: Jaime Cullum, Billy Joel, Sergio Mendes, Harry Connick, Jackson Browne, etc...

7. I am pretty terrified of the open water. (This is odd because of where I live, plus the fact that I used to row crew in high school. I also grew up swimming in Lake Tahoe, but never far from shore.) I love to visit the ocean and lakes and rivers, but I must be able to see through the water to the bottom in order to swim with any confidence. Not knowing "what's down there" really freaks me out. I always think of the image of Shelley Winters dead in her car at the bottom of the lake from The Night of the Hunter. I'm convinced there are creatures (real & imagined) as well as a multitude of as-yet-undiscovered crime scenes. When I trained for my triathlons this was my biggest challenge, but by hook or by crook I made it through. Thus, the adage "mind over matter" has proved itself to me and I know I can prove it again given another terrifying situation.

And now for my 7 nominees... PGT of Little Augury, Catie of Cuffington, Jill of Trend de la Creme, Claire from Lola is Beauty, Taylor of Sterling Style, Kim of J'Adore Couture, and a new blogger acquaintance - Alicia from Cheetah is the New Black!

I love the idea of collecting postcards! It would be fun to frame some of your favorites (or maybe you already do). Thanks for the tag ;)

Yes I do! And have many that are framed around the ol' homestead... In fact, that's why I started the "Postcard of the Week" on here...too many good ones not to share!
