I have always loved menswear. I think I started borrowing my Dad's shirts and vests in high school if not before. So it was only natural that later in life I'd start buying vintage tuxedo shirts at my local thrift/vintage shop. I love tuxedos - there's just something about the word "tuxedo" that connotes elegance, parties, and my favorite old movies. The easiest way to capture this feeling is with one of those old tuxedo shirts re-duxed, played with, made witty and modern.

This one is a classic "white tie" shirt with a small stand collar that ends in two perky points. The micro pleats down the front are crisp and perfect. But, on it's own, the shirt is a little plain. A while ago I started to pair it with one of my favorite Hermès scarves - "Les Petits Métiers de Paris" - designed in 2006 by Karen Petrossian. The moment I saw this scarf I fell in love with it! I didn't have a red one, and I loved the predominance of red in this design, but the turquoise, orange, and jade green also offer ways to pick up different colors too. It's one of the most colorful and versatile ones I own. For the tuxedo shirt, I fold it into a sash and tie it around my waist like a modified cummerbund. I like to leave the shirt untucked because it's long and crisp, and this way it looks less like formalwear.

My favorite velvet blazer is the only way to finish the whole thing, and all together it does look like a fun "tuxedo" look for the day. What can I say, the whole thing just makes me happy! It's fun, unexpected, a little bit of vintage, and a little bit of luxury, and of course it has my favorite dash of red too...
