Five Fives!

Tomorrow will mark the 5th Anniversary of Poetic & Chic. I can hardly believe it myself! To help me celebrate this occasion, I've asked bloggers and readers and friends to show me their FIVES - any number five, or five of something. Little did I know how amazing this project would be in the end!

Thus far, I've received an incredible assortment of fives in all kinds of different interpretations. Some are literal, some are artistic, some are just plain fun. As I put them all together I realized that this project is reminiscent of one of my art classes I took in college. The course was entitled "Concept"; we picked a single concept for the group to explore during the term and then each student created three works that interpreted the concept. This has been quite similar - setting the broad definition of "five" has yielded the most creative results!

I've grouped the fives into, what else, groups of five! As more and more fives come in over the weekend and next week I'll keep posting them - it's an open deadline. The submissions have been so fun, I don't want to shut them down!

Thank you so much to everyone for taking part in this project - it's been so inspiring and exciting for me...and the perfect celebration for Poetic & Chic!

Little Augury, North Carolina:

In a wonderful bit of like-mindedness, Gaye of Little Augury sent me one of my favorite fives - The Figure Five in Gold by Charles Demuth from 1928. Demuth created this painting in response to his friend William Carlos Williams' poem entitled The Great Figure from 1921. Demuth and Williams were friends in college, and their collaboration of sorts is one of the best in creative history.

Among the rain

and lights

I saw the figure 5

in gold

on a red

fire truck

moving

tense

unheeded

to gong clangs

siren howls

and wheels rumbling

through the dark city.

love this idea, Annie! Here is a link. Zidane is amazing. He's sported the No. 10, but originally the No. 5! Vive La France!
