Stacy London is a Fashion Fanatic...

...and thinks you should be one too!
I've been in and out of hotel rooms lately (sheesh - how many times do I need to say it!) and I apologize for being remiss in my posts. But, when you're working these kind of hours in cities far from home, all you want to do when you get back to your hotel room is get into your jammies and curl up with the remote.
So, you can imagine how happy I was to find a new TLC program on the tellie tonight when I returned to my home away from home: Fashion Fanatic with Stacy London.
I love Stacy London. A lot of people have a problem with her: the pout, the scrunch-face, the grey streak, the shoving, the "shut up!"... I love Stacy London. Can I get that I a t-shirt please? She's smart, savvy (try Phi Beta Kappa from Vassar,) creative, and truly loves every aspect of the fashion industry. She doesn't judge people who find good design at Marshall's as opposed to upper Madison - and why should she? Outside of New York, most people are way out of their league once they get up to those rarified avenues, but still - there's good fashion in the neighborhood mall and Stacy London has always shown us how to find it with confidence and individuality. And without judgment.
Her new series on TLC takes her excitement for fashion design and craftsmanship to the next level. The first (maybe only?) episode tonight features "shoes & handbags"...asking: just what is the difference between a shoe that costs $80 and one that costs $800? Well, I do already know a bit about this - it has to do with the balance and engineering. Yes, those kicks ain't just pretty, they're engineered...feel special. But Stacy London is REALLY special, she got to go to the Salvatore Ferragamo workshop and actually create this engineering first-hand. How cool is that?
Well, okay it's about as cool as trying on shoes at Christian Louboutin in Paris, with...Christian Louboutin. Alright, so that was a hard moment for me; as much as I love La London I really wanted to slap her when she said "I get to shop at Christian Louboutin with Christian Louboutin." Bizatch! But, she redeemed herself when she found out where those fantastic red soles came from and where Monsieur Loo-Boo gets his inspiration: think Las Vegas. Yes, it's show girls and their insanely stacked high heels that have always inspired him...who knew? Ahem, look at the evidence and it all becomes clear...
Stacy also goes to the "podiatrist to the stars" in New York who charges $500 a session to help alleviate the pain of wearing high heels. First thing the good doctor says is "Did you know that for every step you take you put three times your body weight on the soles of your feet?" Why no, doctor, I didn't know that... Hmmm. That explains a thing or two.
Nevertheless, I love that Stacy London has the sass, class, and personality to dig into the coal fires of fashion and come out with a steaming fistfull of knowledge and reason. As Christian Louboutin says: "If you want to run through life, buy sneakers..." Well, if not reason they do make a case for fashion! And I love that in any language...
